It's called a geometric progression or "compounding effect". Start with a penny today and double it by adding a penny. At the end of the day you would have two pennies. Double again and after two days you would have four pennies. Double again and after three days you would have eight pennies and so forth. At the end of one month or thirty days, how many pennies would you have? Before you answer, let's ask another question. On day one which would you rather have, one million dollars or a penny after doubling for thirty days? The wisdom in the answer is embedded in the concepts of discipline, patience, deferred gratification and the use of a "Silent Partner" talked about in chapter seven here.
